James Suckling.com - NZ Wine Report

We were totally wrapped to have some great write ups from Nick Stock in the latest Jamesuckling.com report on New Zealand Wine.

We couldn't agree more about excitement World wide for NZ Pinot Noir (though of course, we do have a bit of bias for the variety).

“I tasted more than 450 wines from New Zealand this year and despite being unable to travel, we have covered the best producers thoroughly in this report. Of the top wines, pinot noir once again dominates both in terms of the high scores and the diverse, regional styles on offer. New Zealand Pinot Noir is such an interesting category”.

BURN COTTAGE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2018

This is a very attractive and gently complex pinot that sits in a red-cherry and red-plum zone, laced with spicy, gently herbal and floral elements, too. The palate has a very composed, fresh red-cherry centre with spice and light peppery nuances. Plenty of bright acidity lifts the finish. So fresh. Drink or hold.

BURN COTTGAE MOONLIGHT RACE PINOT NOIR 2018

This has attractive aromas of fresh red cherries, wild herbs, roses and forest wood that lead to a palate that carries ripe, soft red plums, some crunchy pomegranate tang and mellow tannins. Drink now.

BURN COTTAGE VALLI VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2018

This offers such attractive florals with lots of rose and dried herb notes, as well as red plums, red cherries and forest wood. The palate has a smooth, layered feel with red-cherry and plum flavours cast amid fresh acidity and neatly extruded tannins. Long and even. Drink or hold.

BURN COTTAGE VINEYARD RIESLING GRÜNER VELTLINER 2018

This blend works well and is laced with schist-soil influence, adding savory mineral notes and accentuating the peppery side of grüner. The fruit sits in an apricot, melon and peach zone and the palate has a fresh, supple feel. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.
