We have an exciting dual release today, with one of our newest single vineyards coming out, alongside a long-time favourite of Pinot Noir fans.
The inaugural release of the Burn Cottage Sauvage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018 sold out in record time. Even before it was given a 96-point rating from the Real Review, and 95 points each from Wine Spectator Magazine and Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier.

Who would have foreseen, that the area of Felton Road in Bannockburn, once famous for its gold deposits, would become renowned for its ability to grow World Class Pinot Noir? We are fortunate to own 5.8 hectares in this illustrious subregion of Central Otago. Our biodynamically managed Sauvage Vineyard sits on the Northern side of Felton Road, nestled between Felton Roads MacMuir Vineyard and the Mt Edward Muirkirk Vineyard.
In 2019, the overall season gave us moderate temperatures, which preserved wonderful balance in the fruit, and the 20-year-old Bannockburn vines delivered a Pinot Noir filled with black plum, cherry, and raspberry notes with a hint of ripe blueberry. This is combined with subtle hints of violets and an appealing earthy /spice character, complementing a richly textured palate, with suppleness and fine structured tannins. This is a great expression of Bannockburn Pinot Noir, and we think it has cellaring potential of 10+ years.
Burn Cottage Moonlight Race Pinot Noir 2020
We made the first Moonlight Race Pinot Noir in 2014, and ever since it has gained a worldwide following. It is now poured at some amazing restaurants across the globe, including Paul Ainsworth At No6 in Padstow, Matsuhisa in Vail, Rockpool in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, The Opposite House, Beijing and closer to home at Mutton Bird & Kika in Wanaka.
We craft Moonlight Race Pinot Noir by combining two unique parcels of Pinot Noir, one from the Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn and the second from the Burn Cottage Sauvage Vineyard in Bannockburn. We believe it captures the essence of Central Otago Pinot Noir, with concentrated dark and red berry fruit flavours with a supple texture and fine tannins. Whilst it's great now, is has cellaring potential of 7-8 years. See Claires Video
