The High Achiever - Moonlight Race Pinot Noir 2021
As this new release offer hits your inbox, we have just celebrated the last days of picking, and whilst the winery is still a hive of activity, the amazing vineyard crew are taking a breather from handpicking our vineyards.
We kicked off vintage on the 22nd of March, and all the Pinot Noir, Riesling & Grüner Veltliner are now in tank, and filling the winery with heady aromas, as they progress through fermentation. As we are busy making wine, we thought it was time to pop open the cellar and release Burn Cottage Moonlight Race Pinot Noir 2021.
Moonlight Race 2021 is an under the radar, high achiever. James Suckling recently reviewed over 300 NZ wines. We had three wines in the top thirty, with Moonlight Race 2021 placing 24th, gaining a stunning 95 Points, and outmatching wines selling at triple its $52 price point. This was also backed up by Bob Campbell MW, who placed it in his top 20 Central Otago Pinot Noirs from 2021 and awarded it a 95/100 rating.

We craft Moonlight Race by combining Pinot Noir from our three biodynamically managed sites: Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn, along with Sauvage Vineyard & Luna Vineyard in Bannockburn. The combination of dark and red berry flavours, supple texture and fine tannins make it approachable now, whilst still having cellaring potential of 7-8 years (bottled under screwcap).
We know it has become a favourite for Pinot Noir lovers like yourself, and it is poured at some amazing restaurants around the globe, from Muttonbird in Wanaka to Rockpool in Melbourne, Wakanui Grill in Singapore and further afield, The Little Nell in Aspen and the World-Famous Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland.
We hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we loved making it.
Cheers
Marquis, Dianne, and the entire Burn Cottage Crew.
