It's a Wrap for 2022

The Festive season is almost upon us, and 2022 will soon roll into an exciting 2023.

It’s always good to end the year on a high note, and we recently celebrated Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 making the Wine Spectator and James Suckling Top 100 wines of 2022.

We have also been recognised by the Real Review as being a Three Merit Winery, with Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir, being one of only four Central Otago Pinot Noir to gain this ranking. In the words of Bob Campbell MW & Huon Hooke;

They are seen as being Iconic wines of the country, wines of true provenance and exemplary track record. Fewer than 0.5% of wines produced achieve this tier”.

After 20 years of working on the land, it is really humbling to gain this level of recognition on a local and global scale.

Earlier this month, Myself, Dianne and our boys, Liam and Gannon, were pleased to finally travel from Chicago to New Zealand. After landing in Auckland, we joined the Burn Cottage team and travelled across the regions to celebrate 20 years since we started Burn Cottage.

The Pinot Noir dinners held at Mr Morris in Auckland and Ortega Fish Shack in Wellington were a huge success, and no doubt we will look at running similar events in the future. We wrapped up the 20-year celebration road trip, with a long lunch at the Bannockburn Hotel in Central Otago, with 50 of our Pinot Noir fans.

It was exciting to share our stories and to taste a selection of the current release wines, alongside older vintages, paired with some well-crafted dishes. We can honestly say that nothing makes us happier, than sitting round a table, seeing people having a great time and drinking Burn Cottage wines.

We were humbled by the feedback we received from those of you that attended the events, and we cannot say a big enough thank you for supporting of our family-owned winery. Without you, our dream of growing world class Pinot Noir in Central Otago would not have become a reality.

Here’s to a wonderful Festive season and taking a well-earned break, to spend quality time with family & friends.

Cheers

Marquis, Dianne, and the entire Burn Cottage Crew.
