The Festive Season 2019

It's amazing how quickly 2019 has raced past us and we are now only days away from the one time of the year that it’s ok to have a glass of fizz and a Christmas mince pie or two for breakfast.This also means we are getting closer to the start of harvest for vintage 2020...

In the vineyard Shane and the team are busy tucking all the new shoots, which have grown rapidly since bud burst started around seven weeks ago. The timing of the rain over the last couple of weeks has been fortuitous and has really given the soils a much needed injection of moisture, which in turn has supported the development of the shoots.

Claire, Rachel and Olivia (who has started back after maternity leave) are busy tasting through the 2019 wines that are in barrel and monitoring the last of the malolactic fermentations that are taking place, now that the warmth of spring has shown itself. They are also getting in the orders for our new oak barrels and ensuring that any equipment that needs replacing is added to the shopping list for harvest. They have also confirmed the interns that will be joining them in the winery for vintage 2020.

On a sales front it's been a busy few months for Andy (with help from Claire & Rachel) doing the Pinot Palooza events in Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne and for the first time Brisbane. Around 10 000 Pinot Noir fans attended the events and we were kept busy pouring and talking all things Burn Cottage. They are fantastic events and we highly recommend you checking them out in 2020. We have also been busy in market spending time with our distributors across China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Denmark, BENELUX, Norway and Germany. It is so encouraging to see the growing understanding of the wines of Central Otago within these countries and the increasing demand for our wines.

We released the 2017 vintage wines a while ago and we are seeing some excellent feedback from wine writers and Pinot Noir fans across the World. Including the following by Mr NZ Wine, Bob Campbell MW, about the Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017
