It’s hard to believe that we are less than a month away from the end of 2020, and there is no doubt, that after the rather chaotic year that we have experienced, that most of us will be looking forward to the coming festive season.
We've had a pretty dramatic start to the season in Central Otago, with several brutal Spring frost events. Which saw Shane having to crawl out bed in the early hours of the morning, to set the sprinklers off in the Burn Cottage vineyard and to fire up the frost fan in the Sauvage Vineyard. We were fortunate that the pre-emptive action prevented any real damage to the emerging buds and the more settled weather over the last while, now has us about five days ahead of last year in terms of shoot development and flowering. However, as we well know, the rest of the season is still ahead of us and nature will decide what comes our way in the vineyards.
We have been really humbled with the support that our family owned business has been receiving, from supporters like yourself in New Zealand and across all four corners of the globe. It is really exciting to package up and send out cases of wine that are destined for your cellar at home and knowing that at some stage they will be opened and shared with friends and family.
As this is our final update for the year, we thought we would offer you a selection of current releases and wines that we have released from our winery cellar, that we think would be a fantastic edition to the dinner table or as special gift.
We have the highly anticipated release of the Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 magnums. Magnums are a fantastic option when serving a group or for long term cellaring. We also had a dive into our cellar and can offer a mini vertical case ,which contains two bottles each of Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015, 2016 & 2017. The 2016 vintage delivered us a highly memorable Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir and fortunately we stashed a small parcel aside and this is also available to you.
Alongside the limited releases, we have the current releases from the 2018 vintage. All of these wines have recently received some fantastic reviews and will no doubt deliver some exciting drinking over the coming years.
Free NZ delivery on 6+ bottles and Australia starts at NZ$60 and NZ$145 for the USA.
Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018
"Complex and fine with aromas of fresh cherry, ripe and juicy raspberry and red apple. Layers of mineral and soil spices with a floral overtone and fine barrel toasty qualities. On the palate - equally fine and complex with a core of fruit, firm tannins and medium+ acidity. Tense, youthful and dry with a fantastic texture and fine lengthy finish. Well-made and ready to enjoy from 2021 through 2031".
94 Points Nick Stock Jamessuckling.com
Burn Cottage Moonlight Race Pinot Noir 2018
"Complex yet subtle, earthy before fruity, floral before oaky, totally varietal and completely captivating. On the palate - dry, tense, fruity, youthful, lighter on it feet, but loaded with varietal signatures of dried herb and red berry fruits, fine tannins and medium+ acidity, mineral and earth layers, nicely complex and nothing overdone. Balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2025".
94 Points Cameron Douglas MS.
Burn Cottage Vineyard Riesling Grüner Veltliner 2018
This unconventional blend of white varieties combines Riesling floral, citrus and lime with Grüner tree fruit and spice. Quite a weighty mid-palate with fine, peppery tannins adding extra structure. A gutsy and moderately complex white. Drink 2020–2025 92 Points Bob Campbell MW
Thank you for all your support in 2020, have a fantastic festive season and enjoy raising a glass or two of Pinot Noir over the months ahead.
Kind regards
Marquis, Dianne and the Burn Cottage Team.
